Just as you would expect from a semiarid desert area, the Simpson Desert has exceedingly dry temperatures, usually receiving 150 mm or rainfall or less. However, due to water running in from other nearby areas, there are often floods in some areas of the desert. After the rare rainfall, wildflowers begin to bloom into life. Wind storms also do sometimes appear with around 4-5 ever year.
